It seems like standard connectivity ports on a tablet is a big concern when manufacturers are designing how thin a slate would be.
And this is pretty obvious with Toshiba’s new AT200 tablet, in which for the record, is the thinnest among the Honeycomb tablets we’ve seen (particularly in the 10-inch category), beating the likes of Motorola XOOM and ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, or even the first version of Galaxy Tab 10.1. Toshiba AT200 is only 7.7mm thin, which is 0.9mm thinner than the newer version of Galaxy Tab 10.1.
But how did Toshiba do that?
Well, anticipating that essential interfaces and connectivity ports should be on-board in today’s tablets, Toshiba decided to put “micro-versions” of these ports that includes micro-HDMI, micro-SD, and micro-USB. Surely they can have a thin battery, thin SSD, and among other internals so I think the main focus to achieve a really thin design is on the external ports. And of course, being thin will translate to being light; that is the Toshiba AT200 only weighs 558g. Although I’m thinking this is quite “plasticky” too.
However, the AT200 is not just all about being light and thin. Carrying the latest version of Android OS (Honeycomb) with 1GB of DDR2 memory and with ARM Cortex A9 processor ticking at a maximum of 1.2GHz, presumably in a TI OMAP 4430 chipset, I think Toshiba really has something to say about its performance.
Toshiba AT200 Specs
Android 3.2 (Honeycomb)
1.2GHz TI OMAP 4430 processor
10.1-inch capacitive HD (1280 x 800 pixels) display
Up to 64GB internal storage
