Sure thing if you followed the latest news from the IFA event in Berlin, you probably have heard of the new Intel-powered ultrabooks of 2011.
Joining the likes of Apple MacBook Air, Asus UX21, Toshiba Portege Z830 Series, and Acer Aspire S3 – Lenovo’s IdeaPad U300s ultrabook undoubtedly complements this year’s selection of ultra-portable machines. It’s definitely a good thing and perhaps an advantage if you’re into the Lenovo brand.
So what’s new with this thing? Well, starting from its name, the suffix “s” in IdeaPad U300s probably means “slim”; but it obviously not the slimmest ultrabook anymore. Acer Aspire S3 took the crown at just 13mm thin. The IdeaPad U300s measures 14.9mm edge to edge and is 1.9mm thicker than S3, but yeah – it’s still ultra-thin and it deserves to be called such. After all, what matters most is the entire build. That being said, Lenovo thought of two things building this machine: technology and fashion. Lenovo says the IdeaPad U300s is “designed for fashion-minded consumers who want a product that is stylish, yet also powerful and productive.”

Like the other ultrabooks, IdeaPad U300s’ specs are pretty impressive. Lenovo says it can boot up in less than 10 seconds through its Enhanced Experience 2.0 RapidDrive SSD technology. And if you’re power-conscious, the company added the U300s can provide up to eight hours of “productive use” or 30 days on standby; and with Lenovo’s RapidCharge technology, its battery can be charged to 50% capacity in just 30 minutes! And anticipating heat dissipated in your lap is among the most common problem when working for hours, the U300s is designed with what Lenovo calls Breathable Keyboard, a cooling technology which allows air to flow in through the keyboard and out of the sides and rear hinge, thus resulting to the removal of the vents on the underside of the notebook. It’s quite impressive, huh?
Pricing and Availability
The IdeaPad U300s together with Lenovo’s other two new laptops, the IdeaPad 300 and IdeaPad 400 will be available from October 2011 onwards. All three laptops are available in a cool Graphite Gray color. The Lenovo IdeaPad U300s also comes in limited-edition Clementine Orange.
Lenovo says official prices for all of these laptop models will be announced closer to the availability date; although we’ve initially learned U300s will retail starting at $1,195, while U300 and U400 will go for $799 and $849, respectively.
