Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. announced earlier today that they are going into a voluntary recall of some Honda models which include Honda Jazz, Honda City, and Honda CR-V.
This is the second recall of this year following the first one in February which involves defective parts that may cause the engine to stall. This time, however, the voluntary recall is “to replace the power window master switch assembly with countermeasure parts.”
In a press release, HCPI says:
The recall affects a total of 19,143 units of combined Honda Jazz (2005-2007), Honda City (2006-2008), and Honda CR-V (2005-2006) models. (See the list below)
This is the second recall of this year following the first one in February which involves defective parts that may cause the engine to stall. This time, however, the voluntary recall is “to replace the power window master switch assembly with countermeasure parts.”
In a press release, HCPI says:
The silicon component commonly found in air fresheners or automotive cleaning agents, etc. enters into the power window master switch. This accelerates wear in the contact area and over time, wear particles accumulate between the power source and ground of the unit switch. The resin material of the unit switch is then heated and carbonized. This may cause smoke and in worst case, partial burning of the window switch cover.Although no accidents or injuries have been reported related to the said defect, Honda Philippines is taking proactive actions for total safety of Honda vehicle users. Replacement of affected parts will be carried out in all 28 authorized dealers and 3 service centers here in the Philippines, of course, free of charge and will take no more than 30 minutes.

Owners of Jazz, City and CR-V models not included in the list above have no reason to worry since the affected parts are of different specifications. Other Honda models such as the Civic, Accord, Pilot, Odyssey and HR-V sold and distributed by Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. are likewise not affected.Honda Philippines says it will start sending Letters of Notice to concerned owners starting tomorrow, September 6, 2011. Customers are also advised to call their respective dealers or the Honda Hotline at 1-800-1000-Honda (46632) or (02) 857-7240; or by visiting HCPI website at www.hondaphil.com, for inquiries and details of scheduling.
