LG announced today another smartphone on its Optimus lineup and the Korean phone maker named it as LG Optimus Sol.
So what’s in the name? Well, a quick search on big G’s database reveals Sol as the Latin term for Sun, as in the star at the center of the Solar System. But heck we’re talking smartphone here, right? Well, LG Optimus Sol certainly got its name because of its 3.8-inch AMOLED (termed as Ultra AMOLED) display which offers lesser contrast on readability of text and images even at direct exposure to sunlight. Powered by a single-core 1GHz Snapdragon processor and packed with 512MB of RAM, LG Optimus Sol carries Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). There’s also a 5MP auto-focus camera, but with no Flash.
Though Optimus Sol already got a 1,500mAh battery, which I believe is enough for phone with entry-level hardware specs; LG built this handset with enhanced idle-based power management system that boosts battery life by 20 to 30 percent. Not bad, really.
Available in black, titan, and white – the LG Optimus Sol will be introduced first in Europe beginning mid-September, followed by Central and South America. Looks like this phone won’t land in the Philippines, but I’m quite confident grey markets will have it on their list. Surely we’ll let you know once we spotted one.
