Redsn0w 0.9.7 Beta 4 for iOS 4.2.1 Untethered Jailbreak Released
This is still part of the iPhone Dev Team’s invitation for testers of the beta program of the latest version of Redsn0w that will implement the “backup plan” to the 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak.
The Dev Teamis going to released the updated Redsn0w today, that’s Redsn0w 0.9.7b4, which will eliminate the usbmuxd (USB Mutiplex Daemon) process. That means many more Mac users can join the program.
Update 1: The iPhone Dev Team already released the fourth beta of Redsn0w 0.9.7.
The Dev Team
Today's beta4 will eliminate separate usbmuxd process (so many more Mac users can use it). After that, expand to Windows.Again, this test program is only for Mac users – but the Dev Team said they will be expanding it to Windows users. That would be interesting J. Stay tuned for more updates in the iPhone jailbreaking community. [via]
Update 1: The iPhone Dev Team already released the fourth beta of Redsn0w 0.9.7.
The fourth beta is now available (testers ONLY please!). Starting with this version, redsn0w no longer requires you to install and run a separate program for the usbmux (this was a non-trivial procedure for many). It’s okay to keep that program running if you normally use it for ssh anyway. We also think we’ve fixed a race condition in the GUI that was causing redsn0w to crash during the “Preparing JB Monte Files” step. Nothing at all has changed on the iPhone side (where the main issues are still just Bluetooth and Skype). Skype Brings Video Calling to iPhones
Share the Moments that Matter Most over 3G and WiFi
30 DECEMBER, 2010 – Luxembourg – Skype today announced the new version of its iPhone application that brings video calling to millions of mobile users around the globe over both 3G and WiFi networks. Available to download from the Apple App Store today, the new Skype for iPhone App allows iPhone , iPad and iPod touch owners to make and/or receive free* Skype video calls for the first time. Users can now see their family, friends and colleagues around the world while talking to them. With approximately 25 million concurrent users logged into Skype at any given time**, the new Skype for iPhone makes it easier than ever to share moments wherever you are.
Video calling significantly enhances the user experience of Skype for iPhone, which is one of the top five free iPhone apps in 2010 according to Apple. Now, users can make and receive free Skype-to-Skype calls, call mobiles and landlines around the world at very low rates, and now share more moments together with video on Skype for iPhone.
"With video calling representing approximately 40% of all Skype-to-Skype minutes for the first six months of 2010, our users have been eager to get Skype video calling on their mobile phones," said Neil Stevens, general manager of Skype's consumer business. "By bringing video to mainstream users at their home or work via their desktops, on the go with their mobiles, or into their living room via their TV, Skype has made it possible for millions of people to share video moments wherever they are."
A video call evolves communication beyond transactional experiences to a shared experience where people can share any occasion with others wherever they are. Whether this is a military father watching the birth of his child while deployed abroad, loved ones communicating via sign language or work colleagues collaborating around the globe – the opportunities are endless.
Users can place Skype video calls with their iPhone over both a 3G data connection* or WiFi. The new Skype for iPhone app is compatible with the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch 4th generation with i0S 4.0 or above. Video receiving capabilities are available on the iPod touch 3rd generation and iPad. Calls can be made between devices using the new Skype for iPhone app and desktops including Skype for Windows 4.2 and above, Skype for Mac 2.8 and above, Skype for Linux and ASUS Videophone.
The Skype for iPhone application is available for free download from the App Store or at www.skype.com/go/iphon2

Nokia N8, the Smartphone Used in Tron Legacy
Two months before the official premier showing of TRON Legacy, I was invited to join the TRON Night event at SM City IMAX Theater to catch with the 20-minute sneak peek of the 3D high-tech adventure movie.
Several parts of the entire movie were shown randomly, but I didn't see any scene that features a phone until the end of the show. The other day, I was able to watch the full movie and it was surprising to see a Smartphone used to download an operating system and leaked it to the internet.
If you too had already watched the movie, perhaps you can remember the scene in which Sam Flynn, the son of the creator of TRON (Kevin Flynn) – seemingly uses a Nokia N8 as a hacking machine to drag down the company called Encom. Oh, you should be proud if you're one of those who pre-ordered the unit back in October. Want to see that awesome cameo again? Check it out after the break. (Focus at 0:50 to 0:55)
Want to check the difference? Here’s that cool Nokia N8 powered by Symbian^3 OS.
Were you able to identify the phone while still on the theater? Do let us know in the comment section.

HTC Desire HD Arrives in the Philippines, Order Now!
Oh yeah, HTC committed to having the Desire HD in the country late this month. Well, here it is. You might not be seeing this on local shelves just yet, but some authorized dealers of HTC products already have the units, waiting for your calls to have it sent at your doorstep.
But if you’re somewhere near in Parañaque; consider picking it up instead. Just don’t forget to place your reservation first. Yes, only limited units are available, in fact we got a tip Top Electronics only received 10 units from HTC.
If you’re here in Cebu, or in Davao, or where the heck you’re hiding – have your phone ready and dial 0927-9794883 to put your order. Here’s the catch.
You’ll be surprised hearing that Top Electronics is selling Desire HD 3K less than what has been announced previously- that’s Php 32,000 to be exact. That includes free shipping, 1-year warranty, 7-day direct replacement, and is payable through bank deposit (BDO, BPI Family, and RCBC). The HTC Desire HD has 1.5GB internal storage, but my source said the Php 32K Android device comes with a free 8GB MicroSD card. Great deal!
Cebuanos, I’ll also sneak a quick look around the city if this unit is already available, so just stay tuned. I did that thing with HTC Desire Z if you don’t mind, I’ll always do to bring you the latest.
So, are you buying? [via]

NTC Allows Philippine Telcos Cap Broadband Data
The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) passed a Memorandum Order (MO) that will allow internet broadband service providers to cap volume data per user per day.
In the said memorandum, the NTC requires internet service providers to specify the minimum broadband connection speed and service reliability against the service rates as seen on advertisements, flyers, brochures, and service and legal agreements. The revised memo however, would also allow the telecom companies to set a maximum volume of data a subscriber can use in a day.
Basically, the move comes with both pros and cons.
Given the minimum internet speed, a subscriber is rest assured of a more reliable service. For example, with the existing Smartbro Plan 999, that’s equivalent to the minimum bandwidth of 512 kbps for Php 1,000 a month with service reliability of 85% as described in the new memo. The promised “Up to 2Mbps” speed on the current Smartbro Plan 999 is actually misleading, giving the fact that subscribers are most likely to get slightly higher or even lower than the usual 384 kbps – though that’s not always the case. And with the required minimum speed, subscribers could easily identify if they are being served by the ISP well or not.
On the other hand, the maximum daily volume of data allotted to every subscriber would help Telco’s minimize network congestions collapse since the entire bandwidth consumption becomes measurable and handy. On the subscriber’s end, if one is into video streaming, peer-to-peer file sharing, online gaming, VoIP, and etc. everyday – I guess that would be the time such activities will be restrained just not to hit the maximum limit of downloaded data.
Anyway, we’ll just have to see once this broadband cap is implemented in the future. What do you think? [via]
Update 1: After being warned by the International rights lawyer Romel Bagares that the NTC's proposal for broadband capping is against consumers' right of information, the NTC clarified that the memorandum order is still open for revisions and they will welcome public opinion on the matter.

"We want to make it clear that this is only a draft. It's still very much a work in progress," said Dodie Santos of the NTC's Public Information Office. [via]Update 2: After the public hearing at the NTC headquarter in Quezon City last January 11th, Tuesday, NTC official scrapped the proposed broadband capping as seen on the original memo. Samsung Galaxy Tab Arrives in Cebu, First Impression [Video]
I was able to have a quick hands-on of the Samsung Galaxy Tab at the Globe Telecom Concept Store yesterday. It’s actually a single unit displayed for prospective subscribers of the telco’s unlimited internet plan for the tablet.
I’ve seen this device here in Cebu, more than a month after the official release in Germany back in September - but it was just yesterday that I was able to hold and had a quick preview of this Froyo tablet from Samsung.
The Galaxy Tab is basically smaller than Apple’s iPad or just as big as the BlackBerry PlayBook. You can actually put it on your pants back pockets, just don’t forget to pull it off before you sit J.
At the front side of the device is the 7-inch WSVGA screen with the touch panel at the opposite edge of the company logo. There’s a front-facing camera located on the upper-right portion of the tablet.
The sides of this tablet are black matte in which you will see the 3.5mm headphone jack at the top; the power button, microSD card slot, SIM card slot, and volume controls on the right; the small microphone on the left; and the 30-pin connector port and the built-in speaker at the bottom.
The back panel is all-white, designed with a glossy plastic, with the 3MP rear camera and LED flash on the upper-left. The Galaxy Tab feels lighter than the Cherry Mobile Superion I previewed recently, that’s probably because of the non-metallic build.
With the Android 2.2 OS, running TouchWiz 3.0, the overall performance of the Galaxy Tab is impressive as it’s still donning the 1 GHz A8 Hummingbird processor and the PowerVR SGX540 GPU – as also seen from the Galaxy S specs. Just wondering how it will perform on Gingerbread or Honeycomb when it officially comes out.
You may want to check the quick hands-on video after the break.

Globe Telecom Offer Internet Plan for Samsung Galaxy Tab
Smart Communications is already done accepting pre-orders of the Samsung Galaxy Tab unlimited data plans. We already got the official price here in the Philippines, in which it will retail at Php 34,990.
Now for those who already had the unit and want to stick with Globe Telecom’s internet service – here’s good news for you.
Globe is offering an unlimited internet plan (Globe Tattoo Plan 999 to be specific) for Samsung Galaxy Tab. The plan is “Line Only” which means you have to purchase the tablet from other retailers. Though I personally confirmed this one at the new Globe Concept Store in Ayala Center Cebu, the plan is actually available nationwide.
With Globe Tattoo Plan 999 for Galaxy Tab, you will enjoy up to 2 Mbps internet speed, Php 999 per month, locked-in 12 months. Now at least you have an option to select which unlimited internet plan is really the best deal for your Android-powered tablet. What 'ya think?

Redsn0w Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 to be Released, Dev Team Looking for Testers
Hang on iPhone jailbreakers. The iPhone Dev Team is silently inviting interested testers of the new version of Redsn0w before they do a general release for all.
Such version of Redsn0w implements the "backup plan" to the iOS 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak. Basically, this call is for all iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPad, and iPhone 4 users who are still stuck on iOS 4.1 or those users who didn't bother updating to iOS 4.2.1 which to date, can only be jailbroken tethered. The invitation goes:

Over the Christmas weekend we'll be releasing a version of redsn0w that implements the "backup plan" to the 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak. We're seeking your help to test this redsn0w and find any bugs before we do a general release! As mentioned, this invitation is only for Mac users and the release of the new version of Redsn0w will be over this Christmas weekend - so just stay tuned for more updates. [via]
(If you have an iPhone 3G, or an old-bootrom ipt2g or iPhone 3GS, you already have an untethered jailbreak! Just use the latest public redsn0w.)
To keep things manageable, this will be a Mac-only test program. We also request that any volunteers *NOT* need the ultrasn0w unlock (in case things go very wrong).
Right now, the "backup plan" requires that you have the 4.2b3 IPSW on your Mac, and that Cydia has your 4.2b3 SHSH hashes. Please don't pirate that 4.2b3 IPSW! (We're also working on a way that this technique might apply to all those with 4.1 IPSWs, but that's not the first goal right now.)
If you fit all the above qualifications, please follow @redsn0w_testers on twitter for announcements, and use the comments section here for feedback. Thanks very much for your help, and Happy Holidays!

Skyfire for iPad is Out, Let You Play Flash Videos on the Tablet
Almost two months of waiting since the release of Skyfire for iPhone, the web browser that is used to play flash videos on iDevices now has support for iPad. Released 3 days ago, Skyfire 2.0 for iPad is now available at the App store for $4.99.
For those who just got their iPad as a Christmas present, or those who grabbed their unit when it was released here in the Philippines; the Skyfire is basically a web browser that will allow you to "indirectly" watch flash videos on your iPad - one great feature you can't find on Apple's built-in Safari browser. Though there are some limitations on this app, like its inability to play all Flash contents on all websites, Skyfire for iPad is still the best available solution to date as far as playing Flash videos on iDevices is concerned. What else you will get is its integration with social features that will allow you to stay and experience the whole fun on the web.
To see Skyfire for iPad in action, watch the video after the break.
One problem I want to point out with this app is the fact that you would have to purchase it as a separate download, on top of your iPhone or iPod Touch version. It's redundant, if you don't mind. What do you think?

If you've just noticed, I missed updating this blog in the past couple of days. Unexpectedly, or accidentally perhaps, a family member was rushed to the hospital on the night of December 21st.
My uncle has been admitted to the ICU that I, myself, can't think well of anything I have to write as my next post on this blog. Though there are lots of tech news on queue, I decided to have it published after we checked out the hospital instead. You know, it's really quite hard to accomplish some of your tasks when someone in your family is ill. In spite of all what happened, he is now in full recovery after checking out before Christmas Eve, at least we all celebrated Christmas at home.
To CTB readers, especially those who kept on asking why I didn't post any update on this blog, I've already answered your queries. To CTB software giveaway sponsors, I'll run again the giveaway campaign starting tomorrow. I really appreciate all your support on this blog.
Thus, let me extend my sincerest thanks to all friends, readers, Facebook fans, Twitter followers, and sponsors; and allow me to greet you all a merry, merry Christmas!
Wish you all have a great holiday season experience!

Selecting a Mobile Broadband Device
We live in a technically savvy era where wireless high-speed internet access through a portable modem, telephone or other device is readily available at our fingertips.
This modern technology allows us to connect to the internet anytime and virtually anywhere.
The telecommunications market offers a wealth of mobile broadband devices for customers seeking around-the-clock access to the World Wide Web – all through a single mobile network
It can be difficult to understand the different mobile broadband internet solutions available in the marketplace today, this article aims to inform about the available technologies, and the relative advantages and disadvantages of each.
Mobile phones
Most mobile phones have mobile broadband technology integrated into them. Smartphones (iPhone, BlackBerry and HTC) offer advanced computer abilities and connectivity with access to specialised features. Known as “tethering”, some smartphones can be connected to laptops and computers and effectively used as a modem, using the mobile network signal to access the internet. An ideal solution for those looking to combine their phone and internet technology, however this is not suggested for heavy users, as data costs are significantly higher on mobile phones.
USB Modems
A USB modem is a device that is plugged into your laptop, desktop or MAC connecting you to the internet over a USB port. The device is only active when the computer is switched on and the internet function activated. An ideal solution for a single user, this provides internet access when you need it.
Wireless Modems
These devices connect to a wireless network instead of a telephone system. When in use you can connect directly to your internet service provider which will in turn give you access to the internet. Perfect for those wanting wireless internet in the home or work place.
Pocket WiFi
Pocket WiFi is a 3g modem that is portable offering a portable wireless hotspot. The device is small in size which enables it to fit in pockets or bags. This device enables users to get on the net wherever they go. A perfect solution for those whom are constantly on the go.
Tablets
Tablets are compact touch screen devices that allow users to stay connected to the web while on the move. They offer the facility to surf the web away from home, have access to hundreds of thousands of applications (such as Google Earth), the facility to watch movies, take photos, play games and, in some cases, to make and receive calls. An ideal solution for those wanting something a little more advanced with a larger screen than a mobile phone.
After you have chosen your mobile broadband device you will need to choose a mobile broadband plan. Mobile broadband plans can be tailored to month to month use, prepaid services or annual contracts.

The Top Ten (10) Most Common (Perhaps, the Worst) Passwords Registered at Gawker Media
Gizmodo.com is one of my favorite gadget blogs, as well as Lifehacker.com for computer and internet tips and tricks.
It only appears silly thousands of users or readers under the Gawker Media network registered account passwords that even a first grader can guess. Though the scenario is not impossible to happen for other sites that require users to register accounts, it only turns out Gawker Media servers were compromised few days ago and the usernames and passwords scoured from its database have been leaked to the web. Interestingly, The Wall Street Journal analyzed the data and we are able to get the top ten (10) most common passwords, or even the worst passwords ever registered on Gawker Media Network. You want to guess? Don’t bother… Here are those:
1. 123456
2. password
3. 12345678
4. lifehack
5. qwerty
6. abc123
7. 111111
8. monkey
9. consumer
10. 12345
Perhaps, owners of these passwords haven’t stumbled on Lifehacker’s guide to choose great passwords – have they? Or they just really don’t care with their online security. What ‘ya think?

AutoDesk University 2010 Showcases Impact of Great Design [Press Release]
Just received the official press release of the recent AutoDesk University (AU) 2010 conference held in Las Vegas, Tokyo, and Beijing.
Some of you might probably interest this exciting news especially if you are into 3D design and engineering or similar fields.
This is the second time, I guess, that Cebu Tech Blogger will feature news about AutoDesk, Inc. – the world leader in 3D design, engineering, and entertainment software. The first was when AutoDesk brought the popular AutoCAD software back to Mac, after 18 years of exclusive distribution to Windows users.
For those who haven’t heard of AutoDesk University (AU), it’s an annual user conference which showcases latest innovations in 3D design technologies. I came across the highlights of the event; surprisingly I found these videos from Autodesk Labs showing off different software projects that will rock the future of design. Watch it after the break.

Autodesk University 2010 Showcases Impact of Great Design
Nearly 30,000 Experience Power of the Possible Through Industry Keynote Presentations, Customer Exhibits, Hands-on Classes, Labs and Networking
Philippines, 22 December 2010 — In its 18th year, Autodesk University, the annual user conference for Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), a world leader in 3D design, engineering and entertainment software, brought together a record number of attendees, with nearly 30,000designers, engineers, architects and digital artists, as well as members of the news media, industry analyst and investment communities, from more than 72 countries gathering at the live conferences in Las Vegas, Tokyo, Beijing and through AU Virtual.
During the three-day Las Vegas conference, attendees were exposed to innovations in 3D design technologies and witnessed the positive impact of design and technology through industry keynotes, customer exhibits and presentations.
“Great design has always had an impact, but today, the need for that impact is greater than ever. We are facing urgent and complex global challenges that demand our most creative work and innovative solutions,” said Carl Bass, CEO and president of Autodesk, during the opening Autodesk University keynote.
Also during the opening keynote, Autodesk chief technology officer Jeff Kowalski talked about how a change in toolset—due to a transformative technology—can inspire a change in mindset.Today’s transformative technology is Infinite Computing which uses the virtually unlimited computing power available through the cloud. Kowalski challenged attendees to change the way they are thinking about technology and to adopt a new paradigm to solve their greatest design problems.
“Infinite computing is changing the nature and potential impact of design in important ways,” said Kowalski. “Now, we can create amazingly robust design explorations, brilliant visualizations and precise simulations more efficiently and easily than ever before.”
The Impact of Great Design
Autodesk invited a broad range of speakers who inspired attendees with examples of design’s impact on a range of industries and communities.
• Scott Summit, CTO of Bespoke Innovations, demonstrated how his company used 3D design technology to create customized and affordable prosthetics that reflect each person’s morphology and personal style.
• Franz von Holzhausen, chief designer at Tesla Motors, drove a prototype of the all-electric Tesla Model S sedan onto the AU stage before showing how he and his design team were able to create multiple prototypes of the vehicle using Autodesk software.
• Bart Nye, public information officer for CalTrans, revealed how CalTrans used visualization technology to more effectively communicate major transportation construction projects to the public, enabling them to minimize traffic and optimize efficiency.
“Using visualization technology to influence public behavior around transportation projects has been a game-changer for us,” said Nye. “We can do things at CalTrans now that we’ve never been able to do before. We can use these robust visualizations to not only affect, but improve, motorist behavior.”
Other highlights from the show included the Design Matters Customer Showcase + Autodesk Labs, exhibits from Autodesk Clean Tech partners Tesla Motors and Pi Mobility and a Mobile Art Gallery, auctioning pieces for charity.
Autodesk University Goes Global, Goes Viral
Autodesk users from around the world came together to network with peers as well as industry and product experts. Attendees had access to 450 classes, 90 hands-on-labs - including 10 Mac-specific labs - and 520 speakers and instructors. Students and educators, as well as participants in the Autodesk Assistance Program, were given free registration and access to AU Virtual, while all attendees at AU in Las Vegas were offered the opportunity to become certified for free on multiple Autodesk software products. More than 2,900 attendees completed certification exams and assessment tests.
From December 6 through February 11, nearly 100 Autodesk Authorized Training Center (ATC) partners in 20 countries will host more than 400 local AU Extension events, which bring the Autodesk University experience and value to thousands more customers and design enthusiasts across the globe.

Apple iPad Arrives at iStore Cebu
The Apple iPad was officially released in the Philippines last week, December 17th. Surprisingly, one authorized Apple reseller here in Cebu also has the units available on the same day.
I personally confirmed this when I visited the iStore at SM Cyberzone yesterday (Oh yeah, I bought another accessory for my new toy). I’m not surprised with the pricing though ‘coz I’d expected it to be a bit a higher as compared to the official SRP posted at Apple Philippines website. Without any further ado, you may refer to the price schedule below.
iPad Wi-Fi Only
16GB Php 24,890
32GB Php 29,590
64GB Php 34,590
iPad Wi-Fi + 3G
16GB Php 31,490
32GB Php 36,790
64GB Php 41,890
As you can see, the prices are a bit higher from Php 500 to Php 900 versus the SRP from here. But if you will ask me, I think that is just fair considering that you will get the unit immediately upon purchase and you can also avail other services as well as warranty claims in a few minutes’ drive to the Cyberzone. So are you buying? Do let us know your thoughts…

So This is the iPhone 5 Clone?
iPhone 5, or whatever name Steve Jobs will give to it, is coming in the next 6 months.
There’s no official specs released yet, or Apple didn’t have any word of how it exactly looks – but the company’s product trends suggest we’ll get to see another iPhone next year, obviously!
What’s quite interesting to hear for now though, is the fact that our Chinese friends were able to clone the speculated fifth-generation smartphone from Apple. Wondering how it looks like? See it yourself above…
This iPhone 5 clone is said to be running Android OS instead of the original iOS which powers Apple iDevices. Designed to have a combination of the third and fourth generation iPhones in terms of form-factor and hardware design, this toy is packed with a 3.5 low-resolution touch screen, with front and rear cameras, as well as function buttons as seen on original iPhones. For you to picture out the whole extent of the design perfectly, check out the video after the break. Oh, by the way the video is in Chinese!
When iPhone 4 was released in the US and later here in the Philippines, cheaper replica of the gadget are also being sold on gray markets as low as $100 or Php 5,000. There was even a white version caught, while Apple delayed it several times. I’d bet this will also sell on the same price range, or even better if vendors offer a buy 1 – take 1 deals. What do you think? [via]

Apple iPad Available in the Philippines, Official Prices Starts at Php 23,990
The first tablet device from Apple which was first unveiled late January this year has finally made its way in the country – about 9 months of waiting since the official release in the US.
The iPad, which comes with Wi-Fi or both Wi-Fi and 3G wireless connectivity options, is now available for order at the Apple Philippines online store. The prices? Well, it starts at Php 23,990 for 16GB, Wi-Fi only. And if you prefer the one which has support on 3G networks, just set aside 7K more as the prices starts at Php 30,990 for the 16GB version. You may check the complete pricing of all variants below.
The first Apple authorized reseller in the country (I bet) to have the units available is the Power Mac Center in Luzon. One thing interests me though, is whether the rumored (or confirmed?) price at the Power Mac Center for the 32GB Wi-Fi + 3G iPad, which is Php 32,990, is correct or not. If you haven't check my previous post yet, that’s 3K less than what is posted at the online store. You may double check it yourself here and here.
Our local iStores here in Cebu don’t have this item yet, but anyway – will let you know once we see these on the shelves. But if you’re quite excited, you can order your item and have it shipped at your doorstep for FREE. Or else, just save your extra bucks for the iPad 2G ‘coz 4 months from now – we are most likely to see a refresh of this tablet. J

LG Optimus 2X, the First Dual-core Smartphone: See Specs, Features, Price, and Availability
We have to admit. It’s not something that will twinkle in the sky, so the Korean company won’t call it as LG Star – instead they named it LG Optimus 2X.
Though it doesn’t exactly resembles its ancestor by name, the LG Optimus One P500, in terms of form factor – the LG Optimus 2X looks similar with Apple’s iPhone 4 at the first glance.
This newest gadget from LG is the first in the world to run a dual-core Tegra 2 processor at 1GHz clock speed. It initially runs on Android 2.2 (Froyo), but is upgradable to Android 2.3 or Gingerbread.
Check out the key specs below.
Android 2.2 OS
1GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor
4-inch WVGA screen
8GB memory (up to 32GB via microSD)
8MP rear camera
1.3MP front camera
HDMI
1080p MPEG-4/H.264 playback and recording
Pricing and Availability
LG Optimus 2X will be available in Korea next year, January 2011 to be exact. Countries in Europe and Asia will follow, so perhaps the Philippines will get to see this smartphone as early as first quarter next year. As of the moment though, no official prices have been released yet –so just stay tuned as we are going to sneak around for the latest updates. [via]

Cebu Tech Blogger was invited yesterday by Globe Telecom to witness the opening of its flagship store in the city. Globe Telecom, a leading Telco in the country, launched its largest flagship concept store at Ayala Center here in Cebu.

Cherry Mobile Superion Tablet Quick Tour on its Froyo OS
As promised, here’s the video I created while having a quick tour on the Cherry Mobile Superion tablet more than a week ago.
The device is powered by a 600 MHz Qualcomm processor only, with 512 MB ROM and 512 MB RAM as well, so it’s not really a big surprise that there’s a lag on some parts of the interface. Remember that the device is running the Android 2.2 (Froyo) OS, the same operating system that powers the Galaxy Tab but the latter has faster processor. You may check out Cherry Mobile Superion full specs.
I apologize for not editing the video much. And oh, since Christmas is approaching – I decided to have a background music that will fit the theme of the holiday season. I think that would be better. I really bet. Watch the video after the break!

PLDT introduces PLDT TelPad
Innovative package combines landline, DSL and a touch-screen tablet
MANILA, Philippines, December 13, 2010 –- The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) is transforming the face, feel and future of the fixed line business with a new offering that bundles a landline service with a touch-screen tablet and a high speed myDSL service all under one service plan.
The PLDT TelPad unit includes a special handset that also serves as a charging dock for an application-rich, 7-inch screen tablet computer. Subscribers can use the handset or the portable tablet computer to make and receive phone calls and access over a hundred thousand online applications. This is on top of the unlimited broadband access of the bundled service.
“We are reshaping the future of the landline and we are starting to bring it to the market now,” said PLDT president and CEO Napoleon L. Nazareno. “We are proud that the PLDT TelPad was conceptualized and developed here in the Philippines using world-class technology.”
The PLDT TelPad tablet is powered by a 1Ghz Cortex A8 processor that enables the device to deliver snappy performance. It runs on Android’s latest operating system version 2.2, which offers genuine multi-tasking capabilities. Users of TelPad can download a wide range of applications from the Android Market, Google’s online store which offers over 125,000 applications like business apps, e-books and magazines and digital games like the highly popular Angry Birds.
Storage won’t be a problem as the unit’s 2GB internal capacity can be augmented by an SD card and USB slot for extended storage. The TelPad also carries a 2-megapixel front camera for still shots and videoconference calls.

“We’ve packed the PLDT TelPad with features that will dramatically change how we use landlines,” said PLDT Senior Vice President Eric R. Alberto, adding that the Philippine market, with its growing number of ‘netizens’, is ready for an innovative service such as the PLDT Telpad.
“We expect TelPad will be very well received and will create a new market of adopters to this new and exciting service. We are bringing back relevance to and expanding the value proposition of the landline in the home,” he added.
“We have reinvented the landline to take on the emerging digital lifestyle and the growing consumer appetite for rich multi-media content”, said Dan Ibarra PLDT Group Head of Retail Business.
“The intuitive design allows subscribers to access information, entertainment and lifestyle apps easily with simple touch of the screen. Aside from Android based applications such as e-readers, news widgets and games, there are other apps being developed for a more enjoyable PLDT TelPad experience,” Ibarra added.
Patrick Tang, PLDT Vice President for Retail Voice, said PLDT Telpad highlights the enhanced value of landlines to households and businesses. “The PLDT TelPad tablet has built-in widgets and many applications that can access PLDT-run content-rich portals such as PLDT@Home, askPLDT and very soon, even PLDT Watchpad, which is PLDT’s online multi-media entertainment portal.”
Subscribers who enjoy a multi-media lifestyle can also take advantage of the TelPad’s built-in HDMI port which can be plugged into any flat screen TV allowing subscribers to watch movies, play games and very soon, even sing along with the Videoke app on the TV’s larger screen, making the multimedia experience richer. The TelPad tablet can also be used to listen to music, read e-mail and display photo slideshows.
Its web-based interface and multi-media functions also opens the door for new communities and services that provide information and entertainment through its wide range of home- and business-based applications.
Recently, PLDT also completed the P2.8-billion upgrade of the PLDT Domestic Fiber Optic Network, the country’s most extensive and resilient fiber optic network with a total of 10,050 kilometers connecting 68 nodes and equipped with a total network bandwidth capacity of 1.56 Terabytes.
This will support the high-bandwidth requirements of innovations such as the PLDT TelPad, Alberto said.

32GB Php 28,990
64GB Php 33,990
iPad Wi-Fi + 3G

Interestingly, one authorized Apple store in Ateneo de Manila University, the iCampus is said to be selling the tablets at a cheaper prices. See the leaked flyer below. (Thanks Sir Yuga!)
I called the Apple resellers here in Cebu about the iPad launch in the country, but sad to say Cebuanos won’t see it on local shelves on the same date. But no worry though as it appears the iCenter has something for us this Friday, too.Ever wonder what is it? Well, just stay tuned as I’m still waiting for the email to get through my inbox.
