Globe Telecom Ceased Marketing and Selling of Tattoo Tonino Lamborghini 4G Stick

Well, I agree this is going to be the best move of Globe Telecom while the telco still has to fix the problem involving an apparent illegal use of Tonino Lamborghini s.r.l’s trademark.

News 5 has reported that Globe Telecom “has temporarily ceased marketing and selling of the Tonino Lamborghini broadband stick which is enabled with High-Speed Packet Access-plus, or HSPA+, mobile technology.”

Just two weeks ago, we received a press release issued by Tonino Lamborghini s.r.l., saying the Tattoo Tonino Lamorghini broadband stick is counterfeit and the company “has never manufactured or authorized anyone to manufacture such a product which constitutes therefore a serious trademark infringement.”

Globe then responded saying the telco has “obtained authorization to use the name and logo Tonino Lamborghini through an agreement with Primo Mobile, the master franchisor of mobile phone related products for the Italian brand Tonino Lamborghini.”

It turned out though, based on the last statement we got from Tonino Lamborghini Group, that Primo Mobile had been granted only a trademark license; however, “such trademark license agreement was duly terminated by the licensor, Tonino Lamborghini s.r.l., some months ago.” Thus, implicating Globe Telecom might have been screwed by Primo Mobile.

We’re quite pretty sure involved parties are fixing the problem in a private channel; however, as a proactive measure Globe temporarily ceased marketing and selling of the said 4G broadband stick.

Globe says Tattoo broadband stick products other than Tonino Lamborghini are still available.

The usual Tattoo sticks are still available, just to be on the safe side with Lamborghini Italy. This should be fixed soon.
We’ll just let you know once Globe resumes selling the Lamborghini brand, so just stay tuned for updates! [via]

Tonino Lamborghini is Not Fake; Globe Telecom, Authorized to Use the Brand by Primo Mobile

Globe Telecom just released an official statement regarding yesterday’s issue in which the telco apparently wasn’t authorized to use the Tonino Lamborghini brand on its 4G broadband stick.

It turned out though that Globe Telecom undeniably obtained authorization to use the name and logo, Tonino Lamborghini, through an agreement with Primo Mobile. Primo Mobile is the master franchisor of mobile phone related products for the Italian brand Tonino Lamborghini.

Here’s the official statement sent to us:

Globe Telecom obtained authorization to use the name and logo Tonino Lamborghini through an agreement with Primo Mobile, the master franchisor of mobile phone related products for the Italian brand Tonino Lamborghini.

Primo Mobile is a Singapore-based company that has a master license agreement with Tonino Lamborghini s.r.l. and is duly authorized to sub-license the use of the Lamborghini logo. The design of the Globe Tattoo Tonino Lamborghini 4G broadband sticks was reviewed and approved by Primo Mobile.

Globe Telecom assures the public of its strong adherence and commitment to the highest ethical standards in business and good corporate governance. The company will not engage in any activity that will mislead the public in the course of doing business and serving its customers.
There you got it, folks. Certainly there’s a miscommunication between Primo Mobile and Tonino Lamborghini s.r.l., else the latter won’t publish a press release accusing Globe Telecom for illegally using the Tonino Lamborghini brand.

Update: Tonino Lamborghini s.r.l says it didn't authorize Primo Mobile to sub-license its trademark.

Globe’s 4G is Fake? Use of Tonino Lamborghini Brand on Broadband Stick May Result to Serious Trademark Infringement

If this is true, it’s going to be a serious trademark infringement, really.

You remember Globe Telecom’s broadband stick which is promised to offer “4G” speed, right? Well, I guess it’s unlikely you’ll forget Tattoo Tonino Lamborghini because aside from being a fresh product, the trade-name itself is too catchy. I personally like the name and I thought the marketing folks over at Globe’s headquarter are creative enough to coming up with, well, Tonino Lamborghini! It turned out though that Globe Telecom is apparently not authorized to use the brand on its broadband product.

Tonino Lamborghini SRL, an Italian company, claimed itself as the sole lawful owner worldwide of the trademark "Tonino Lamborghini" as seen below.

And the company has never manufactured or authorized anyone, specifically Globe Telecom, to manufacture a 4G broadband product, thus the 4G Tattoo Tonino Lamborghini stick is counterfeit. I can smell a lawsuit here, folks.

The press release which managed to get into our inbox was signed in August 3rd and reads:

4G Tatto Tonino Lamborghini Broadband Stick Is a Fake!

BOLOGNA, ITALY--(Marketwire - Aug. 23, 2011) - Tonino Lamborghini s.r.l., an Italy-based company which is the sole lawful owner worldwide of the trademark "Tonino Lamborghini" hereunder

http://media3.marketwire.com/docs/tonino_lamborghini_logo.jpg

wishes to inform its customers that unauthorized people are currently trading online and through Globe stores a "4G Tatto Tonino Lamborghini" broadband stick which is a counterfeited product.

Tonino Lamborghini s.r.l. has never manufactured or authorized anyone to manufacture such a product which constitutes therefore a serious trademark infringement.

Moreover the advertising campaign "Feed your need for speed" featuring Marlon Stockinger, first Filipino to win a formula race in Europe, is deceitful and unlawful since it leads to a serious likelihood of confusion between two different and separate brands and businesses that is to say "Tonino Lamborghini" and "Automobili Lamborghini".

Tonino Lamborghini s.r.l. shall take any legal action to protect the brand.

Yours faithfully,

Dott. Gian Luca Filippi

Tonino Lamborghini s.r.l.

CEO
A quick tour on Tonino Lamborghini SRL’s website reveals the company already existed in 1981, and with 3 decades of existence, it’s most likely that the company owns the Lamborghini trademark.

Globe Telecom has not yet released its comment on this issue. We’ll just keep you posted. [via]

Is Globe Telecom 4G Mobile Technology and Tattoo Tonino Lamborghini Available in Cebu?

I got this question last Friday from our “Ask Cebu Tech Blogger” section and I thought this piece of query could also be of interest to other readers.

The sender wanted to be anonymous so we’ll keep it that way. Here's the question:

Is Globe Telecom 4G Mobile Technology and Tattoo Tonino Lamborghini Available in Cebu?
Well, for HSPA+, the answer is No. Not yet, but Globe has plans of rolling out its 4G mobile to other major cities in the country outside Metro Manila. Globe Telecom has no ETA for that though, so it’s not safe yet to say we’ll have it by Q4 of 2011 or early 2012. The Tattoo Tonino Lamborghini stick isn’t available here in Cebu either.

As of this writing, Globe’s 4G has already been deployed in selected locations in the cities of Taguig, Las Pinas, Marikina, Muntinlupa , Pasig, Paranaque, Quezon, Mandaluyong, Navotas, Caloocan, Makati, Roxas, Pasay, and Manila.

For those who haven’t heard about Globe’s 4G Mobile Technology, it’s actually the telco’s attempt to offer its subscribers an even higher speed of mobile or wireless broadband internet. But technically speaking, this is not the “real” 4G yet as defined in the standards set by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and other standard bodies like IEEE. The 4G-thingy here (for marketing purposes) only refers to the enhancements of current 3G technologies, which can offer peak rates beyond the general 3G speed, but doesn't reach the real 4G speed requirement. This includes HSPA+ (up to 84 Mbps downlink and 22 Mbps uplink), Long Term Evolution or LTE (100 Mbps downlink, 50 Mbps uplink), and Mobile WiMAX (128 Mbps downlink, 56 Mbps uplink).

Globe Telecom is actually using HSPA+ on its “latest 4G” wireless technology and even though HSPA+ can offer peak theoretical download speed up to 21 Mbps with upgradeability of up to 84 Mbps, Globe only assures its subscribers to enjoy browsing at a typical speed of 4-6 Mbps. Globe currently offers Tattoo WiMAX operating on its WiMAX network, but it's definitely not the fastest on its wireless broadband lineup.

The Tattoo Tonino Lamborghini on the other hand is the latest broadband stick from Globe. It’s the first Globe product to leverage its HSPA+ network. Tonino Lamborghini can offer up to 10 Mbps download speed.

We'll update this post once Globe "4G" network and the Tonino Lamborghini broadband stick are already available here in Cebu. If you got related tech questions, shoot us one via this link.

Globe Telecom Offer Internet Plan for Samsung Galaxy Tab

Smart Communications is already done accepting pre-orders of the Samsung Galaxy Tab unlimited data plans. We already got the official price here in the Philippines, in which it will retail at Php 34,990.

Now for those who already had the unit and want to stick with Globe Telecom’s internet service – here’s good news for you.

Globe is offering an unlimited internet plan (Globe Tattoo Plan 999 to be specific) for Samsung Galaxy Tab. The plan is “Line Only” which means you have to purchase the tablet from other retailers. Though I personally confirmed this one at the new Globe Concept Store in Ayala Center Cebu, the plan is actually available nationwide.

With Globe Tattoo Plan 999 for Galaxy Tab, you will enjoy up to 2 Mbps internet speed, Php 999 per month, locked-in 12 months. Now at least you have an option to select which unlimited internet plan is really the best deal for your Android-powered tablet. What 'ya think?
