The juggernaut among Samsung’s tablet lineup, the Galaxy Tab 10.1, together with its younger sibling, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 – have finally landed in the Philippine soil.
In an event in Makati City earlier today, Samsung Philippines officially launched the two tablets which are expected to go head to head with Apple iPad 2 (which has made its way in the country in April), as well with those slates like the BlackBerry PlayBook, HP TouchPad, Motorola XOOM, and among others that haven’t been even released in other countries just yet.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1 are both running Android Honeycomb OS and powered by dual-core application processors clocking at 1GHz. You can check more of its specs here and here.
Prices of Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 are still yet to be known though, but surely we’ll be seeing these on the local shelves in the next few days. If I have to throw my guesstimate, that’s somewhere between Php 30K and 35K giving the fact that the first-gen Galaxy Tab was originally priced at Php 34,990. My guesstimate is actually within direct competition with the iPad 2’s pricing (3G + Wi-Fi models).
Anyway, we’ll just let you know once we got another tip regarding the local prices of all Galaxy Tab variants.
Samsung also made the official launching of its dual-core smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S II, which retails at Php 29,990 or you can get for free with Globe Telecom's My Super Plan 3799.
Update: Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 goes to SMART
