The Philippines just celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of the country’s national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.
Part of the celebration is the formal debut of a new tablet designed to commemorate the life and works of Rizal. The slate, labeled as Rizal Tablet, also known as e-Rizal i-Tablet, is a collaborative work of the Laguna provincial government, Vibal Publishing, and the University of the Philippines in Los Banos. The tablet is being manufactured by Ionics EMS, Inc. – an electronics service provider based in the Philippines which is also currently developing 4G LTE devices for Verizon Wireless in the US.
The provincial government of Laguna plans to distribute about 1,000 prototypes of the tablet to 14 high schools in the province.
Though not much have been revealed what’s inside the Rizal Tablet, it’s said to feature a 7-inch touch screen display (with ajoystick Stylus), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and will come with video and games support on its Linux OS.
I’m wondering though if this Rizal Tablet has something to do with the low-cost tablet PC reported last year. Any thoughts?
