Who would have thought Apple’s next MacBook Air refresh will get better specs and new features, yet will sell cheaper than last year’s version?
Well, I expected the 11.6 and 13.3-inch MacBook Air 2010 notebooks will have a huge overhaul inside and out; but I didn’t expect prices of each variant will go opposite.
In Philippine Apple Store, the new 11-inch MacBook Air variants don either a 64GB flash storage with 2GB DDR3 RAM or 128GB flash storage with 4GB DDR3 RAM installed, both powered by 1.6 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 Sandy Bridge processor and Intel HD Graphics 3000 on its basic configuration. The setup is no doubt powerful than last year’s 11-inch MacBook Air, yet the latest update will cost you Php 2K less here in Philippines.
The same thing goes with the new 13-inch MacBook Air variants. With a dual-core Intel Core i5 Sandy Bridge processor clocking at 1.7 GHz, an upgraded 4GB DDR3 RAM, plus the Intel HD Graphics 3000, you can choose either one with 128GB or 256GB flash storage at a cheaper prices compared to the same model last year.
The ultra-thin and ultra-light unibody aluminum construction of last year’s MacBook Air is outstanding that Apple decided to keep such industrial design on the latest models. And note that the new MacBook Air notebooks come with a high-speed Thunderbolt I/O, and if you’re wondering how fast this interface can transfer data, just think of it twice as fast with USB 3.0, or 20-times faster than USB 2.0. And oh, I’m sure you’ll love to hear Apple also built the new MacBook Air notebooks with support for Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology.
What’s more? Well, with the entire compact build of 2011 MacBook Air notebooks, Apple did include a keyboard with backlit for better typing experience particularly in low-light conditions. Brilliant idea, Apple!
