One of the best features of iPhone 4 that has never been with other devices is the Facetime, which basically allows video calling between other iPhone 4 devices or even with the fourth generation iPod Touch.
It utilizes the front-facing camera built into the device and works via Wi-Fi or through 3G networks if you install a jailbreak app called Facebreak. Though Facetime can’t be considered as the perfect video-calling solution for iDevices, the release of the latest Skype for iPhone app paves the way for a more and better video-calling experience on these devices. But still, it couldn’t be all-the-best if we are going to consider those smartphones which don’t have front-facing camera. Obviously, you won’t enjoy at all the convenience of video calling when your device only has a rear camera.
However, there’s this cool product in the US called Vainworks Stand – which was engineered to flip a smartphone’s rear facing camera to work like a front-facing camera. Technically, it doesn’t touch anything how the phone works, except that it uses a mirror to forward back the image to the touch-screen display. It’s quite interesting, right? Check out the demo after the break.
The maker said that the Vainworks Stand will work with any smartphone that has a rear-facing camera, and the closer the camera is to the edge of the phone, the better. To see the complete list of compatible devices, check out the chart from here. The stand is selling at $17.95 each in the US only and no words if they will accept orders from other countries.
