Sony Announces New PSP E-1000, Priced At 99 Euro Without Wi-Fi

Gamescom, a trade fair for video games, has already kicked off its third year in Cologne, Germany and one that caught our attention so far is the announcement of Sony’s new PSP gaming console.

Some may have been anticipating more announcements of its upcoming PlayStation Vita, but surprisingly – Sony unveiled one more device called PSP E-1000.

According to Sony, PSP E-1000 is a value-priced console that will retail just €99 across all PAL regions (Asia, Africa, Australia,New Zealand, and Western Europe). This is certainly a cheaper console compared to other PSP models, but the caveat here though is the lack of Wi-Fi support. That being said, PSP E-1000 will access catalogue of PSP games through UMD disks. Game titles from PlayStation Store are also playable, but will have to be downloaded through Sony’s Media Go software.

The E-1000 handheld lacking Wi-Fi, yet priced at mere €99, might not be a problem if you just want to play games, uhmm, alone. This may not appeal to you though if you’re used web surfing right on the console, multiplayer gaming, or if you prefer downloading games straight to the device. What do you think? [via]

Sony Push PS3 Update 3.56 While Having PlayStation Meeting in Japan

Just in case you haven’t learned yet, Sony is having a PlayStation event in Tokyo, Japan as of this writing.

The event is focused more on PSP, the cross-platform development framework called PlayStation Suite, the new licensing program called PlayStation Certified, PlayStation Store for Android devices, its Next Generation Portable (NGP) handheld gaming console next to PSP (unconfirmed yet if it’s the PSP2), and etc. (Updates to follow...)

And while Sony’s PlayStation Meeting is going on, it’s also silently pushing update to PS3 devices. The new software update, PS3 System Software Update v3.56, is a minor update that adds a security patch – but speculations are it targets patching the security flaw exploited on the PS3 jailbreak. We can recall that Sony also pushed PS3 firmware update v3.55 last month, so it appears that didn’t fully work in due time.

If you got a PS3 console connected to the PlayStation Network, expect to receive updates in the next few hours. Or perhaps you already have it, do you?
